Brazilian Blow Wave or Brazilian Blowout

article by Jon Davey, Social Media Director

What you gunna call it? Chatting with my artistic director this evening she advised considering a Brazilian Blowout ... “I’m not shaving it all off!” I exclaimed ... no you fool, I mean a Brazilian blow wave ... “PHEW”.

So what’s the difference, not a lot, they are the same thing but the Americans, or I guess the Brazilians prefer the phrase blowout and we here in the UK we prefer the obvious, blow wave.

Surfing the web for more info I came across an article by Petra Guglielmetti who asked celebrity stylist Andy LeCompte and fellow stylist Liz to explain how the Brazilian is different to the well known Japanese straightening technique for an article for Glamour ...

"Can you explain to our readers what exactly a Brazilian blowout is, and how it's different from Japanese straightening?
Liz: The Brazilian Blowout is different from Japanese straightening and other Brazilian straighteners because it doesn't completely straighten the hair. The hair still has plenty of volume and body and can still be worn curly or wavy. The Brazilian just softens whatever curl or wave you have."

So there you have it, not a full on 6 hour permanent Matrix hair straightening treatment, more of a couple of hours half way house for those not quite sure, or simply not that extreme.

Brazilian Blowout facebook

Just found a Facebook group for Brazilian Blowout with over 12,000 fans ... I think I’ll ask group members to comment below so that my artistic director can benefit from my obvious amazing social media prowess!

We live a few hundred miles apart these days which means that if she’s not visiting Windsor then I have to make alternative arrangements to have a Sicilian blow out :)
